President Günter Titsch meets participants with a handicap
Whether handicapped or not, at the 9th World Choir Games in Sochi (Russia) people with and without a disability sing together equally in competitions and concerts.
INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch and Sochi Vice Mayor Irina Romanets met two very special Chinese choirs in the Bolshoi Ice Dome during the currently running World Choir Games.
Both children’s choirs are handicapped due to deafness respectively visual impairment. “It’s my special desire that we’re especially supporting these people,” said Titsch at the meeting. “I admire that despite their handicap they have travelled all the way to Sochi and join the World Choir Games enthusiastically.”
It seems a miracle that the children of Tianjin Dolphin Hearing Disabled Children’s Choir can experience singing anyway and at the same time it’s the result of long-term research and a technical innovation that is being used worldwide nowadays. It’s a so called Cochlea Implant with a microphone and a digital speech processor as well as magnets that render the tunes audible in their ears. Thus it opens them the door to experience choral singing.
Especially the blind choir members of the Changsha Dream of Wings Blind Children Choir need support by many accompanying persons during their choral journey. The children were delighted to be especially welcomed by the organizers.
On behalf of all choirs with disabled members Titsch and Romanets thanked the children and their directors for coming. They were glad about this pleasant musical greeting and successful sign of inclusion.
