Pata pata ist der Song, der erstmals mein Interesse f\u00fcr die Musik S\u00fcdafrikas weckt. Rhythmus, Schwung und Lebensfreude dieses Songs von Miriam Makeba wirken damals – 1967 – regelrecht ansteckend auf mich, den gerade 20-j\u00e4hrigen. \u201eMama Afrika\u201c gelingt es, das in der Regionalsprache isiXhosa gesungene Lied in die Hitlisten vieler L\u00e4nder zu bringen, eben auch in die deutschen Charts. Die weltweit gesch\u00e4tzte gro\u00dfe Stimme des Landes am Kap der guten Hoffnung ist mir allerdings von Beginn an auch als eine Vork\u00e4mpferin einer friedlichen Welt ein Begriff. Mir imponiert ihr mutiges Engagement f\u00fcr Menschenrechte und gegen die damalige Politik der Apartheid in S\u00fcdafrika. Musik, Gesang, Singen in Gemeinschaft, in Ch\u00f6ren\u2013 was kann die Botschaft einer Welt ohne Gewalt besser in die K\u00f6pfe und Herzen der Menschen tragen? Was ich damals noch als eine Art Vorahnung empfinde, sollte in den Jahrzehnten nach Pata pata mein Leben bestimmen. Insbesondere mit dem Start der World Choir Games 2000 in Linz\/\u00d6sterreich. Alsbald wieder \u2013 bei der zehnten Auflage des gr\u00f6\u00dften internationalen Chorwettbewerbs im Juli 2018 in Tshwane\/S\u00fcdafrika. Mein, unser gro\u00dfes Ziel f\u00fcr die kommenden Monate.<\/p>\n
Musik und Tanz sind f\u00fcr Afrikaner, ganz besonders f\u00fcr die Menschen in dem faszinierenden Land zwischen dem Atlantischen und dem Indischen Ozean, ein Element der DNA ihres Lebens. Mich begeistert ihre F\u00e4higkeit zur Hingabe im Singen wie in der Bewegung, ob nun aus Freude oder in Trauer. Mich beeindruckt die enorme Bandbreite s\u00fcdafrikanischer Musik. Seien es landestypische Richtungen, die uns nicht selten von bestimmten Bev\u00f6lkerungsgruppen erz\u00e4hlen. Seien es kreative Verbindungen in der Pop-, Rockmusik und im Jazz mit Stilen und Traditionen der \u00fcbrigen Welt, auch Europas. Mir sind nat\u00fcrlich die fantastischen Ch\u00f6re des Landes besonders nah und inzwischen zum Begriff f\u00fcr das ganze Land geworden. Alle zwei Jahre begeistert vor allem der Stellenbosch University Choir bei den World Choir Games das Publikum. Das 1936 gegr\u00fcndete Ensemble, das \u00e4lteste seiner Art in S\u00fcdafrika, f\u00fchrt ganz sicher nicht zuf\u00e4llig die INTERKULTUR-Weltrangliste der Top 1000 an. Und schlicht eine Wucht ist die B\u00fchnenshow A typical night in Africa des Kearsney College Choir aus S\u00fcdafrika. Spektakul\u00e4re Bilder, gro\u00dfes Vokalkino und ein Naturerlebnis sondergleichen.<\/p>\n
Aber schauen Sie selbst, kommen Sie nach Tshwane und erleben Sie ein Land, das Sie nie wieder loslassen wird!<\/p>\n

Rhythm, panache and joie de vivre of this song by Miriam Makeba in 1967 were contagious at that time when I was 20. \u201eMama Afrika\u201c succeeded to hit the charts of many countries (including Germany) with this song sung in the regional language isiXhosa. This great voice of the country near the Cape of Good Hope was renowned worldwide and to me right from the beginning also well-known as a pioneer for a peaceful world. Her courageous engagement for human rights and against former politics of apartheid in South Africa impressed me. Music, chant, singing together in choirs \u2013 how can the message of a peaceful world be better communicated to people\u2019s minds and hearts? What I sensed at that time as a kind of foreboding was bound to determine my life in the decades after Pata pata. Especially the start of the World Choir Games 2000 in Linz\/Austria and soon again at the 10th edition of the world\u2019s biggest choir competition in July 2018 in Tshwane\/South Africa. It is a huge aim for me and all of us during the next months.<\/p> For Africans - and especially for the people of the fascinating country between the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean - music and dance is an element of their life embedded in their DNA. I am impressed by their devotion for singing and motion, be it due to joy or mourning. I am also fascinated by the huge range of South African music - be it typical music styles, which often tell us about certain population groups or be it creative connections between pop, rock and jazz music and styles or traditions of other parts of the world, including Europe. Of course the fantastic choirs of the country are very dear to me and have meanwhile become a synonym for the whole country. Especially the Stellenbosch University Choir inspires the audience at the World Choir Games every two years. This ensemble, founded in 1936 and the oldest of its kind in South Africa, does not lead the INTERKULTUR world ranking list of the Top 1000 by chance. And the stage show A typical night in Africa of the Kearsney College Choir from South Africa is simply breath-taking.
