In 2011, INTERKULTUR, together with the city of Hội, launched the first international choir competition in the history of the country – the “Vietnam International Choir Competition”. The great commitment and trust of Võ Phùng, the Director of the Center for Culture, Sports, Radio and Television of Hội An City, have contributed significantly to this success. After 36 years in office, he was officially retired these days.

Through Võ Phùng’s contacts to the Vietnamese central government, INTERKULTUR was able to sign the contracts for the first Vietnam International Choir Competition 2011 in Hanoi in 2010. Since then the competition takes place every two years and thus makes an important contribution to the development of choral singing in Vietnam. To date, the festival is the only event of its kind in the country’s history.

I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Võ Phùng. The good cooperation with him and his excellent team has led to five extraordinary choir competitions in the beautiful city Hội An. Of course, I hope that Mr. Võ Phùng will stay with us in the future and visit our upcoming events as a guest of honor. I wish him all the best for his well-deserved retirement.

The 7th Vietnam International Choir Competition is already being planned and will take place from April 8-12, 2021 under new management on the local side, in proven cooperation with INTERKULTUR.
